Sunday Morning worship service | "give me a preacher that love's god for real."| sermon TEXT titus 1: 1-4 | preached word of god by rev. dr. charles w. wormley

Video Ministry recording provided by Church School Superintendent Brother Robert Lucas

Here is Titus 1:1–4 from the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible:

1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness—
2 in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time,
3 and which now at his appointed season he has brought to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior,
4 To Titus, my true son in our common faith:
Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

Faith Focus: Weekly Bible Insight:

📖 Lesson Title: From Persecutor to Preacher — Saul’s Encounter with Jesus

🔍 Scripture Focus: Acts 9:1–19

🧠 Background

Saul of Tarsus was a devout Pharisee who fiercely persecuted early Christians. He believed he was serving God by trying to destroy the followers of Jesus. But God had a different plan for Saul’s life.

🌟 Key Events on the Road to Damascus

  1. Saul’s Mission
Saul was on his way to Damascus with letters from the high priest, authorizing him to arrest Christians and bring them back to Jerusalem.
  2. The Divine Encounter
Suddenly, a bright light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say:

“Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
Saul asked, “Who are you, Lord?”
The voice replied, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.”

  1. Blindness and Obedience
Saul was blinded and had to be led by hand into Damascus. For three days, he neither ate nor drank.
  2. Ananias’ Obedience
God spoke to a disciple named Ananias, telling him to go to Saul. Though afraid, Ananias obeyed, laid hands on Saul, and said:

“Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”

  1. Transformation
Something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He was baptized and began preaching that Jesus is the Son of God.

💡 Lessons We Can Learn

  • God Can Transform Anyone
Saul was a persecutor, yet God chose him to be a powerful witness. No one is beyond God’s reach.
  • Obedience Matters
Both Saul and Ananias had to obey difficult commands. Their obedience led to healing and transformation.
  • Spiritual Blindness
Saul’s physical blindness symbolized his spiritual blindness. When he encountered Jesus, both were healed.
  • God Has a Purpose for You
Saul became Paul, one of the greatest apostles. God has a unique calling for each of us, no matter our past.

🙏 Reflection Questions

  1. Have you ever felt like your past disqualifies you from being used by God?
  2. What might God be calling you to do that requires courage and obedience?
  3. How can you be like Ananias—willing to reach out to someone others might fear?
